本次设计的小型轧钢机是借助旋转轧辊与其接触摩擦的作用，将被轧制的金属体（轧件）拽入轧辊的缝隙间，在轧辊压力作用下，使轧件主要在厚度方向上完成塑性成型。
本次设计的设计主要包括：电动机的选取，传动部分的设计，减速器的设计，轴系部件的设计，箱体的设计，小型轧钢机主体，机架的设计，其中包括对减速器的润滑和密封等。设计过程按照国家标准和机械设计标准来设计的。
轴的设计和齿轮的设计是本次设计的重点，设计中参照了机械设计手册进行了精确的设计，并进行了强度校核。
本次设计的小型轧钢机结构简单、使用价格低廉，并且符写设计合设计要求，主要针对用来加工链条板的卷带料而设计的。可保证加工后的产品性能良好，表面光洁度高，板型好，能够达到所需的要求。
